Great Fall Rates for Early Holiday Booking
|
by Patti Free, Vice President of Global Membership Services
With summer officially over, we are heading into the season for great fall rates. It's an ideal time to start shopping early for Net Rates and booking holidays vacations for you and your clients. In this month's Newsletter, we feature Net Rates in Florida for those of you who may want to escape the winter cold with a beach vacation or a pre-cruise stay. And remember that those Net Rates are available worldwide - in top snow destinations too!
This month, we spotlight some unique end-of-the year offers from some of our partner hotel chains. Omni and American Express have teamed up to offer a terrific Family Package where they're rewarding agents with a $25 Rewards Card, and offering the travelers a 25% savings on family stays at all Omni hotels. You can also invite clients to participate in Embassy Suites door sign design contest, or purchase special promotion gift cards from Fairmont Hotels that supports community charities.
Read on below about all the positive things that travel agents are saying about the CCRAtravel.com Booking Portal. We heard from many of our valued members at THETRADESHOW, presented by ASTA in September and wanted to thank those of you who spent time with us in one of our Portal training sessions. What you learned in Vegas doesn't have to stay in Vegas! In fact, we hope you share the news with more agents and colleagues by spreading the word about online weekly trainings available through CCRAtravel.com.
For any of you just starting out as a new home business owner, or those of you who need to revamp your home business for 2008, we also have some useful tips below. Happy booking in this very promising Fall season. |

‘Tis the Season of Giving at Fairmont
|
As people’s thoughts turn to giving this holiday season, and gift cards continue to grow in popularity, Fairmont Hotels & Resorts is pleased to offer a new gift card program with a charitable benefit, available at properties worldwide and online.
Between October 15 and December 31, 2007, there will be an extra reason to feel good about choosing a gift card. For every card purchased, Fairmont will donate $5 to Right To Play, an international development organization which uses sport and play programs to improve health, build life skills, and foster peace for children and communities affected by war, poverty and disease. Fairmont and Right To Play share a commitment to community and personal wellness with adidas, partner in the Fairmont Fit program available to members of Fairmont President's Club loyalty program. Adidas also proudly supports Right To Play through their Adi Dassler Fund, and recently the two launched the Red Ball Movement to raise awareness of the power of sport and play for holistic child development.
Cards can be purchased in any denomination from $50 to $5,000, and can be used for accommodation, dining or recreational experiences such as golf or ski at any Fairmont hotel or resort. Also available are Willow Stream Spa gift cards, for use at luxury spas in ten Fairmont locations.

How CCRAtravel.com Provided a Time Saving Corporate Travel Tool
|
Summary: Mickey Matarazzo, a travel agent from Coral Sands, works as the corporate travel agent for MC Consulting. As a corporate travel agent, Mickey was spending more hours on the Internet searching for the best rates for her client. Mickey set a goal: reduce research time without compromising the quality of results for her client.
Mickey’s Challenge: In more recent years, travelers have been doing their own research online making the travel agent’s research time double what it should be because they have to make sure the rates they are finding can compete with what their clients find on consumer sites. Mickey’s objective as a travel agent is to give her clients the satisfaction they are looking for in hotel rates, in a timely fashion.
Her Results: Mickey quickly discovered the CCRAtravel.com Booking Portal and what it had to offer. When searching for a destination CCRAtravel.com pulls rates from four places: CCRA Preferred Rates, CCRA Net Rates, GDS Rates, and Hotels.com; displaying them on one convenient screen. All Mickey had to do was plug in the location, the number of rooms she needed, and the travel dates of her clients.
"I recommend CCRAtravel.com to anyone who has to book a lot of hotels. It is fast, convenient, and easy! Two thumbs up for CCRA!"
Mickey Matarazzo,
Coral Sands |
Mickey was able to book a trip for 3 rooms in San Francisco for
2 nights, in less then 15 minutes for MC Consulting! Now Mickey uses CCRAtravel.com as her starting point for all her corporate clients and she has spread the word of CCRAtravel.com to her fellow Coral Sands agents.

Thanks for Visiting Us at THETRADESHOW!
|
Thank you for visiting CCRA International’s booth at ASTA’s THETRADESHOW in September. We had a very exciting weekend sharing the power of Net Rates on the CCRAtravel.com Booking Portal. Our CCRA experts met many enthusiastic travel agents wanting to take advantage of all that CCRAtravel.com has to offer.
During THETRADESHOW, we had a chance to show agents how they can mark up their own commissions and get paid faster booking Net Rates. We presented the newly expanded worldwide Net Rate inventory and demonstrated the convenient way of comparing internet and GDS rates all on CCRAtravel.com. We had a very fun and eager audience and can’t wait to return next year with new information for everyone!
CCRA International was proud to participate in the 4th annual Advocacy Dinner and to present to members of the International President’s Council. We look forward to supporting ASTA’s goal to expand its international membership.
If you missed us at THETRADESHOW and are interested in learning more about the CCRA Booking Portal, we offer free online training weekly. Visit CCRAtravel.com to register. |

Woodfin Suites Hotels
|
Let's face it: life on the road can be less than fun at times. To the true business traveler, nothing is worse than coming "home" to four bland walls, a mini bar, and whatever happens to be on cable. For families on vacation with small (or not-too-small!) children, being cooped up in a typical hotel room is no way to unwind after a day playing tourist. Which is why, at Woodfin Suites and Chase Suites Hotels, we've made it our business to make life easier, better, terrific, in fact!
Let us help you unwind: enjoy a glass or two of wine and hearty hors d' oeuvres or take a dip in our heated pool before sinking into a luxurious, bubbling hot tub and letting the stresses of the day float away. Several of our locations now offer full-service restaurants, employing the culinary talents of award winning chefs.
Why not visit the Oasis Bar & Grill in Woodfin Suites San Diego and let executive chef Patrizio Sacchetoo show you why he was recently voted one of the top 10 chefs in America?
Once you're relaxed and recharged, it's time to head up to your suite, where a truly exceptional home away from home awaits you. Grab a DVD from our library to watch in the privacy of your living room, cook up a feast in your fully equipped kitchen and then sink into your divinely comfortable bed, ready to face another day. But don't rush away in the morning. Breakfast at Woodfin and Chase hotels is worth sticking around for!

About Woodfin Vision
We at Woodfin believe that we're responsible for more than giving you just a great night's sleep. Which is why we've developed Woodfin Vision: a combination of both charitable and environmental initiatives designed to make us better global citizens.
Every day, from our eco-friendly laundry program, to our use of Fair Trade Certified coffees and teas, we work to keep our air clean, our waters pure and our earth's precious resources sustained. Woodfin Vision has an eye on our communities, as well: we give our employees paid leave to work with local charities, we give all of our outgoing furniture and appliances to local agencies rather than liquidating them, and we have launched a company matched $1 donation program for www.visionofchildren.org, as well as for community projects. We even offer guests the opportunity to purchase a Simmons luxury bed, as used in our hotels, with Simmons generously donating $200 to Woodfin Vision from each sale.

Starting a Home Based Business
|
For many travel agents starting a Home Based business can be tricky. However having the right business plan can help you start you off in the right direction. Even if you have been in business for a while, it might be time to create a fresh up-to-date business plan to prepare for 2008.
So you've decided to start your own business - congratulations! It's a huge leap from letting someone else take care of taxes, accounting, payroll, inventory, and/or a myriad of other activities necessary to run a business. However, running your own business has its advantages, too. You get to be your own boss, set your own hours and days to work, and be responsible for your own success. It can be a great way to free yourself from the tedium of 9-5 and work at doing what you love, but you have to begin by asking a few questions:
1. Are you doing what you love, or just doing something you’re good at? A desire to get away from the regular working world can be a good motivation to work for yourself, but you have to be excited to get up in the morning to do what it is you have chosen to do for a living.
2. What is it you are planning to do? What niche is it going to fill? Is there a need for what you can provide? Will the market bear another entry?
3. What technical skills or talents do you have? Just being able to do something may not be marketable enough to convince customers or financiers that you are a good financial investment.
4. Who are your competitors in your chosen profession and how are you going to do it better? Why should customers come to you? What do you have to offer that no one else does?
Once you are satisfied with the answers to these questions, it is time for the decision of what kind of business structure you will use. Will you be a sole proprietor, responsible for every facet and the penultimate authority as to how to run the business? Will you enter in with a partner, the better to share the cost and workload, but also the profits and the business decisions? Perhaps the decision will be made to incorporate, with its financial safeguards but more complex and costly structure? At this stage, legal advice is recommended, if only so that you fully understand the advantages and disadvantages of your chosen structuring plan. Many lawyers will provide a free or reduced-rate primary consultation, though often not more than an hour. When the structure is finalized, a name for the business should be decided upon, if not already having been done so in advance. It should be easy to remember, avoid initials and single letters (B & L & R, Inc. will be difficult to remember for customers) and try to say something about the business (Bob’s House of Hobbies is easier to remember and spell).
Next, a business plan is a vital step in laying out all these topics and proposals in a standardized format. A good business plan serves as a formal statement of the new company’s goals, financing, structure and legal considerations. It acts as a resume to prospective investors and is the primary documentation they will use to evaluate whether or not your business will be worth investing into. It also provides the proprietor(s) with a chance to see the workings of the new business in black and white. A basic business plan should at the least contain a balance sheet, income statement and statement of cash flow, as well as a proposed financial budget for the first year, or as long a period as necessary if a year is impractical.
So with these quick tips, plan for success, and good luck in your chosen endeavor!

Jim Day
Chief Operating Officer
Jim Day is the Chief Operating Officer of Reservation Center, Inc., the parent company of CCRA International. He has been with the Company for almost two and a half years.
Jim joined the Company after spending seven years as Regional Vice President for Carlson Wagonlit Travel based in Los Angeles. His previous travel industry experience included eight years of senior management positions in finance and operations with The Hertz Corporation. Twelve years with the DuPont Company and a European-based assignment with Emerson Radio Corp. in Barcelona round out his diverse and extensive professional experience.
Asked what he values most at CCRA, Jim was quick to respond that he values the Company’s deep-seated commitment to enhancing our service offerings and improving the work environment and growth opportunities for all our employees.
When not managing the Company’s day-to-day operations from his office in Agoura Hills, Jim prizes the time he can spend with family. “My wife Judith and I have four sons, but they and their families are spread all over the U.S. In August we were able to spend a week out on Cape Cod with the full Day clan, all 18 of us, including our eight wonderful grandkids. It just doesn’t get any better than that!”
Asked for his take on the Company’s current position, Jim replied, “Reservation Center and CCRA International each strive to combine the best of high tech and high touch for our customers. In a very competitive marketplace, our growth over the past few years speaks volumes to the investments we have made in technology, the quality of our people, and the vision of our investors. Reservation Center and CCRA International—it’s a great place to be!”

What Travel Agents Have
to Say About CCRAtravel.com
|
CCRA International is constantly working on improving its CCRAtravel.com Hotel Booking Portal for travel agents. We like to help you ensure that your clients are getting the best rates in the best locations, and that you are getting the best commissions. Our number one goal is to make travel agents and their clients happy. We have recently widened our Net Rate Inventory to include port cities worldwide for pre and post-cruise hotel stays. Look at the positive results these travel agents have experienced:
“I wanted to tell you how happy I have been with your product. I have been using the CCRA booking engine for about two years now. It is very easy to use, the information on the hotels has been very accurate, the rates I get are excellent and you guys pay like clockwork! I think you could say- I am very satisfied and plan to continue using your product exclusively! Keep up the good work and thank you again!”

For All Your Travel Dreams 9/14/07
“We [Simply Cruises] love booking Net Rates. The CCRA Net Rates allow us to see what our clients are finding on the internet and let us offer them a more competitive rate with a higher commission mark up. We also like receiving our commissions in a timely fashion. When we book in Europe sometimes it feels like we are waiting forever for our commission. That’s not the case when we book Net Rates! We always look for CCRA Net Rates first for our clients.”
Don Conner

Simply Cruises, St. Louis 9/11/07
“I do enjoy the ease of booking hotels for my clients with CCRA and when I get the chance to book their rooms using the Net Rates it's even better for me and our agency. Working at a cruise line, it is hard for me to earn commissions, so I am glad that we are a Vacation.com agency. It gives us a similar playing field as other big agencies since we are only a CLIA agency. Thank you for that.”
