ASIA SPOTLIGHT - IHG Expands in China, Japan, India

IHG's (InterContinental Hotels Group's) portfolio of hotel brands has been growing at record pace across Asia Pacific during the past year, accompanied by an equally strong growth in the group's regional support infrastructure. All four of the IHG brands currently present in this part of the world - InterContinental, Crowne Plaza, Holiday Inn and Holiday Inn Express - continue to outperform. The current growth momentum is especially strong in the key markets of the People's Republic of China (PRC), Japan and India. Some of the brands within the IHG portfolio are also set to appear for the first time in strategic new locations such as Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, Maldives, Bangalore, Melbourne and Adelaide.

The group has a development pipeline of more than 120 hotels and 40,000 rooms across Asia Pacific. Over 80 hotels have been signed over the past one year period - an average of one signing every five days. More than two thirds of these signings are for new-build hotels with the rest being conversions of existing properties. Close to 70% of the hotels will be located in the PRC, Japan and India, in line with IHG's global strategy of building the hotel industry's strongest operating system, focused on the biggest markets and segments where scale really counts.

IHG has also been growing its support capability in key regional locations. Commented Tony South, acting chief executive of IHG Asia Pacific, "We have doubled the number of employees based in our corporate offices in Shanghai, Sydney, Singapore, New Delhi and Tokyo during the past two years. This includes beefing up critical functions such as talent development, hotel openings, design and engineering, brand management, sales and revenue management."

The company launched the IHG Academy in Shanghai last year. Designed to identify and groom staff for IHG's hotels and develop the future talent pool, the IHG Academy was recently expanded to another three cities across the PRC. IHG partners with leading institutions in each of these locations to help deliver the programs.

At the same time, IHG has invested heavily in research aimed at garnering customer insight to help take their brands in the right direction. The company conducted one of the largest ever hotel research studies, talking to 15,000 consumers across the globe.  The insight gained is now being used to help differentiate the company's brands through innovation, communication and an improved booking experience.

IHG's Priority Club Rewards, the biggest hotel loyalty program in the world with 33 million members, has been growing particularly well in Asia Pacific. The number of regional PCR members has tripled to about three million over the last 3 years, averaging growth of about 39% annually.

Globally, IHG is opening one hotel a day around the world and signing two hotels a day. The company now has a total of more than 1,400 hotels (over 188,000 rooms) in the development pipeline and expects to exceed its target of 50,000-60,000 net and organic room additions by the end of 2008.

Portal Tip: How to Book Multiple Rooms

When booking multiple rooms, first select the number of rooms you want.  After you have selected your number of rooms, another drop down menu will appear where you will select the number of adults per room.  When you have selected the number of adults, a third drop down menu will appear where you will select the number of children in each room. Once you have selected the number of children, a fourth drop down menu will appear where you will select the ages of each child.

When the menus are completed, proceed with your hotel search as normal. When searching for multiple rooms, the only rates that will return in your results page are Internet Rates and CCRA Net Rates.

After you have completed your search and marked up your commission - you are ready to book. Select Book It and you will be taken to the booking page.

Fill out the primary guest information accordingly. Then add the primary adult’s name for each room.  Continue with completing your booking.

Note: If you want to book multiple rooms with GDS rates, book 1 room and then select the “Clone Booking” feature on the confirmation page.  You may clone up to 10 rooms.

How To Choose a Domain Name Registrar

To claim a domain name and use it for building your virtual office or website, you need to go to a domain name registrar, check the availability and register the name out of available options.
Today there is a plethora of domain name registrars available. But it was not always so.
Till 1998 Network Solutions was the only company that was authorized to register the domain name. It lost its monopoly after that and many companies have risen. While competition is good for the prices, it also adds to the confusion.

    Domain Name Registering Tips:

Accreditation: ICANN maintains a list of accredited domain registrars. The registrar pays application and annual fees to ICANN. A fee is also paid by the registrar to Network Solutions, the company that maintains the central registry of domain names. When you choose an accredited registrar, you ensure that your chosen domain name is officially part of the Internet.

Sometimes you might find a webhost or other sites allowing you to register at their website. These act as reseller to the accredited registrars. In such cases, they should disclose to you which registrar they represent.

Terms: Be absolutely certain to read and understand what you are getting before you pay. Read about ownership clause and other terms and conditions.

Price: There was time when getting a domain name registered was an expensive affair. But now you can get a domain name much cheaper. There are many types of discounts available that vary greatly with registrars. Do check out various deals.

Duration: Do not register your domain for more than one year in the beginning. You would like to evaluate your registrar before committing for further.

Delay: A domain name is generally available within 48 hours after you register it. Check your registrar's site to determine how long you will have to wait. If it says something like 7 days, do not go for that registrar.

Domain transfer: You should be able to transfer your domain name to another service without any restriction and for a fee not exceeding the fee for new registration. A lot of registrars also offer free transfer. Generally there is a restriction on domain transfer for 60 days after you register your domain. Please check your registrar to find any other restriction and curbs.

Customer Support: This is another very important aspect. You need a good support system in case of any problem. Check out if phone or chat support is available. If Email support is the available support then it should not take them more than one business day to respond.

If you need to ask some specific question about some registrar please visit the forums on this topic. Many people would happily share their experience and guide you.

    What Travel Agents Have
    to Say About CCRAtravel.com

CCRA International is constantly working on improving its CCRAtravel.com Hotel Booking Portal for travel agents. We like to help you ensure that your clients are getting the best rates in the best locations, and that you are getting the best commissions.  Our number one goal is to make travel agents and their clients happy.  We have recently widened our Net Rate Inventory to include port cities worldwide for pre and post-cruise hotel stays.  Look at the positive results these travel agents have experienced:

“I wanted to tell you how happy I have been with your product. I have been using the CCRA booking engine for about two years now.  It is very easy to use, the information on the hotels has been very accurate, the rates I get are excellent and you guys pay like clockwork! I think you could say- I am very satisfied and plan to continue using your product exclusively! Keep up the good work and thank you again!”
    Roni M. Jordan

For All Your Travel Dreams 9/14/07

“We [Simply Cruises] love booking Net Rates.  The CCRA Net Rates allow us to see what our clients are finding on the internet and let us offer them a more competitive rate with a higher commission mark up.  We also like receiving our commissions in a timely fashion.  When we book in Europe sometimes it feels like we are waiting forever for our commission. That’s not the case when we book Net Rates! We always look for CCRA Net Rates first for our clients.”
    Don Conner
    Travel Agent
    Simply Cruises, St. Louis 9/11/07

“I do enjoy the ease of booking hotels for my clients with CCRA and when I get the chance to book their rooms using the Net Rates it's even better for me and our agency. Working at a cruise line, it is hard for me to earn commissions, so I am glad that we are a Vacation.com agency.  It gives us a similar playing field as other big agencies since we are only a CLIA agency.  Thank you for that.”
