September is the official end of the summer travel season, and the beginning of great fall rates. Remember fall off-season travel accounts for 24% of all travel in the United States, and encompasses cultural, historical, and cruise vacations. This is the time of year when many hotels start offering great deals to travelers due to a significant decrease in travel until the start of the holiday season.
The fall season also kicks off the end-of-the-year travel trade conventions and education symposiums. Tourism Cares Gives Back to the Nation's Capital
Non-profit organized a restoration event on the National Mall in Washington
|

Tourism Cares, a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving natural, cultural and historic sites around the world, hosted a volunteer clean-up project on September 11, 2009 at the National Mall and Memorial Parks in Washington, DC. The inaugural Tourism Cares for America Volunteer Day brought not only the travel industry together to make a difference, but encouraged all to participate in the effort to memorialize and beautify our capital city.
“By organizing the first-ever Tourism Cares for America Volunteer Day on a significant day in American history, we honored all those affected by the tragedy of September 11,” said Bruce Beckham, executive director, Tourism Cares. “Through this project we all came together to restore one of our nation’s most visited sites, show the strength of our country and give back in a meaningful way.”
Following the lead of President Obama, who signed the Edward M. Kennedy Serve America Act in April to expand the mission of national community service and recognize September 11 as a national day of service and remembrance, Tourism Cares strived to encourage all to visit Washington, DC to perform the needed service at our nation’s capital.
Volunteers assisted with much needed painting projects at the World War II Memorial, the Korean War Veterans Memorial, the Franklin D. Roosevelt Memorial and Lafayette Park. These often visited historic sites are important to every American and the beautification of their surroundings is important work.
